I grew up in the town of Rochester, Minnesota and graduated from college in 1982 with a degree in education. I like the fact that my desire to help others fits so well with real estate. I represent United Country because of their long-standing commitment to helping people throughout the country buy or sell their properties in a way that respects the needs of the clients. My wife, Darlene and I moved to Ouray County in 1994 with the desire to offer something special for our three daughters, Emily, Anna and Laura. Give me a call or stop in to our office and let me help you reach your Colorado dream.

I am a newly established real estate agent as of October, 2008. I am twenty-two years old and have worked in customer service for eight years. My people skills are quite exceptional due to all the exposure with customers and I know that kind of one-on-one experience will make me a wonderful agent to work with. Although I still work part time in a kitchen to keep the bills paid, I look forward to the day when I can say “goodbye” to that job and focus in solely on real estate.
My parents moved to Ouray when I was eight years old and I have lived in the area ever since. Both of my parents were school teachers up until six years ago when my dad became a real estate agent. Having the same time off as their children made it easy to travel with us, which they did every chance they got. I have been all over the United States and I can honestly say that this is the only place I want to live, except maybe Hawaii.
This area is like none other on earth and is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise. Each town in this corner of the state has its own flair and there is national forest just a short drive away no matter which town you choose to settle in. The skiing, hiking, hunting, jeeping and climbing in this area are superb and Ouray has one of the only man-made ice climbing parks in the world. There is a lot of focus on live music and appreciation for the arts in our community. In my opinion, though, the best part about living here is soaking in natural hot springs after a long days work.
I currently live in Montrose with my boyfriend of four and a half years. We have two large dogs and one kitty. My family is small but they mean the world to me. Most of my spare time is spent playing with my animals, taking the dogs on walks, cleaning house or learning new recipes. Although my schedule is quite busy, due to my two jobs, I try to find a little time to enjoy the arts, which is my true passion. I love to sing, dance, paint, draw, and lately I have been getting into sewing, although it is a new hobby for me.
I look forward meeting everybody who desires to live here and helping them find their niche in this truly unique community.

Paula Marlatt, Broker Associate

Paula was born back East and "bred for adventure." She finished college in Colorado, married, farmed, raised a family, and started and directed a summer camp for city kids and an herb school. She grew and sold organic produce at farmers' markets and invested in real estate. For the last 9 years she has taught skiing, most recently in Telluride, and has been selling real estate and developing "country-style subdivisions."

Put my experience to work for you. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University and have worked locally for Planning and Engineering firms for over 12 years. This includes designing some of the more prestigious Subdivision developments in San Miguel, Ouray, Delta, and Montrose counties. While I love my work, my family is my first priority. I endeavor to lead a life of service and that has included coaching my girls in Middle School soccer, driving the Ouray Ambulance, and sitting on the Ouray City Council. I will work to serve you and find the right solution to your specific family’s needs. This area is a wonderful place to live and I look forward to helping you find your niche!

Hal Jordan, Broker Associate

Hal was lured to the Telluride area in 1998 to fulfill a dream of living in the Southwest Colorado mountains, and to enjoy the recreational opportunities here. He is an avid outdoorsman, former volunteer ski patrolman at Vail, and is a great resource about the best hunting, fishing, trail riding or hiking spots in the area as well as real estate. Before moving to the Western Slope, Hal pursued a career in management and marketing on the Front Range of Colorado, working for and marketing for such companies as Pentax and Lowe Alpine Systems. He has a degree in Engineering from Case Western Reserve. Until his move to Norwood, real estate was a hobby for Hal—buying, improving, and then selling land and houses in the Denver/Boulder area. So real estate was an obvious choice as a career to pursue in the rural Southwest. Hal’s technical background is an asset when understanding water shares, the global positioning system for locating property corner pins, all the new computer software, and internet communications related to real estate. More importantly, with Hal’s marketing background, he understands the need to advertise extensively, and to communicate through direct mail and the internet to expose property to potential buyers and other Realtors. “My goal is to provide accurate, informed, trouble-free service so that transferring real estate is a pleasant event for both parties.” Hal Jordan

Gary Cotton, Agent

I practiced Veterinary Medicince for 25 years and decided to make the move of my dreams to Ridgway, CO to live and work on a small ranch. My wife, also a veterinarian, my son and myself are living our dream in this wonderful and scenic community. Leaving my active practices and the many animals I loved was not easy but it was time to move on to our next great adventure.
That, in a large part, led me into the Real Estate business. You see, I want to assist others to achieve their own dreams that often have a very close relationship to real estate. Where and how one lives dictates a large part of one's happiness and fullfillment. One of my life's goals is to help others acheive their own goals.
In addition to the ranch life, my family and I relish in the outdoors of the area where we ski, hike, mountain bike, motorcycle trail ride, kayak, raft, fish, hunt, garden, horse trail ride and about anything there is to do outside. My only regret is there is not enough time in the day to do it all all of the time.
My other interests include writing, day trading stocks, futures and currencies, as well as real estate investments, horticulture in my atrium and playing the Native American flute. And, I still love animals. In additon to my human family (who also includes a fine young man in Medical School and is an officer in the United States Air Force and a beautiful daughter who is married (to a veterinarian I might add) and is expecting her first child in May), we have 2 goats, 2 horses, 3 Bactrian camels, geese, chickens, turkeys, 60 alpacas, 6 llamas, a Blue and Gold Mcaw, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a boatload of tropical fish.
So, if you have a dream involving Real Estate whether it be in buying or selling, give me a call. I understand the dream and am here to assist in its realization.
